Preventative Care

Prevention is better than cure

At Beach Street Veterinary Clinic in Frankston, we believe prevention is the key to a long, healthy, and happy life for your pet. Regular check-ups, vaccinations, parasite control, microchipping, and tailored nutrition all play an important role in detecting health concerns early and keeping your pet in their best condition.

By staying on top of preventative healthcare, you can help avoid costly treatments down the track and ensure your furry friend enjoys many active years by your side.

Preventative Services

Nutrition

We believe good nutrition is one of the most important ways we can support your pet’s long-term health, alongside regular exercise and veterinary care. Pets need the right balance of water, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals to thrive. We recommend feeding premium, high-quality pet food, storing it correctly, and following proper feeding amounts rather than free-feeding.

Because dietary needs change as pets grow, we advise life-stage diets—puppy, adult, senior—to ensure the best care at every age. Our team is here to provide personalised nutritional advice so your pet receives the optimal diet for their current life stage and condition.

Vaccinations

We believe vaccinations are one of the most important steps you can take to protect your pet’s health. Staying informed and up to date with routine vaccines helps prevent serious diseases and gives your pet the best chance at a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. We tailor vaccination programs to suit your pet’s age, lifestyle, and needs, ensuring they remain protected all year round.

Serious but preventable diseases can cause immense distress for pets and their families, leading to lifelong complications or even being fatal. Sadly, we still see many of these illnesses all too often. The good news is that vaccinations provide safe and effective protection, helping to prevent your pet from suffering unnecessary illness.

Microchipping

We offer microchipping—a tiny implant about the size of a grain of rice, placed under your pet’s skin near the shoulders—during a normal consultation. This chip carries a unique ID code entered into a national registry and remains the most reliable form of permanent identification for your pet. If your pet is lost, shelters or vets can scan the chip, look up the details, and help reunite your pet with you.

In Victoria, pets must have a microchip before the procedure can be done, and it’s essential to update your contact details in the registry if you move or change phone numbers.

Flea & worming

We recommend year-round protection against parasites, because fleas and heartworm are more than just nuisances — they pose serious health risks. Fleas can cause skin disease, allergic reactions, and even transmit disease, so we strongly advocate for continuous flea control, regardless of the season.

Heartworm, spread by mosquitoes, can lead to life-threatening damage to your pet’s heart and lungs, yet is easily preventable through a proper prevention program. We encourage pet owners to talk to us about the best treatments and to test pets not yet on prevention, so together we can keep your companion safe, comfortable and healthy.
